The importance of getting away

This post I am writing to you while on vacation. I know, what am I doing talking about the importance of getting away and currently writing a blog post!

In our current world, not just in skilled nursing, but also in most other businesses, it seems the stress levels are higher than they have ever been. Budgets are tight, expenses are up, and it always lately seems like staffing is always a challenge.

Take time to get away

This is the first time in years that I have truely gotten away. Now don’t get me wrong, we do a family vacation every year. We make sure to make family memories and make it a priority to get away from home at least once a year as a family. The biggest change for me this year is…….no laptop. I purposely left my laptop home. I have no access to do work, and it is scary at first but feels liberating.

The biggest challenge of an online world is the ability to do work anywhere and at any time. Fortunately for my situation is that for security purposes I can only access work from my work laptop. By leaving the laptop home, I am forced to just relax.

One of the most important benefits….PTO

One of the most important benefits a company can give you is PTO. It is one of the best ways to help you recharge your battery and return to be effective at your job. The biggest key is to actually fully use it.

If you are lugging around means of work while on PTO you are not able to fully recharge. You only wind up doing some work. It is always easy to justify it in your mind. I can’t tell you how many times I have at the least checked in and at minimum verified labor under the premise of “I won’t have as much to do when I get back.”

So goodbye for now….

So off I go to continue a work free vacation. Lunch is calling, along with beautiful weather and a loving family…..even the furry child. Peace out until next week.
