Isn’t it sad that a profession that generates such a powerful and cost effective impact on millions of seniors, has to continually fight for reimbursement for services.
I know it seems like a broken record but unfortunately we are looking again at a 3.37% reimbursement cut from Medicare. There has continued to be “talks” about fixing the broken system and developing a fair and inflation adjusted payment schedule. Unfortunately all that we seem to be able to get to is talking. We as providers, family members, and future patients need to contact our senators and representatives to fulfill the ongoing promise of fixing the system.
Constant cuts to increase elsewhere only hurts the seniors
When there are year over year reimbursement cuts for rehab services it becomes more and more difficult to hire and keep good therapists. Unfortunately this is especially true in more rural areas of our country where it is even harder to just find someone who is licensed to practice.
When reimbursement is continually cut, salaries get cut and we as therapists can no longer survive in this profession. The biggest hurt is felt by the seniors that no longer have access to therapy services with no one willing to stay in the profession. It is those seniors that will have decreased overall heath and wellness. They will not fully recover from illnesses and injuries and have decreased quality of life.
What can I do?
Every person that is or will be using Medicare at some point in their life (every US citizen) needs to be a voice for those that cannot be a voice for themselves. Our seniors are not able to fight for themselves and need us to fight hard for them. Please be an advocate for our senior population and tell our government that reforms must be made now. No more excuses and pushing the ball further down the line. We need change now to protect the future of our Healthcare for one of the most vulnerable populations of our country, our seniors. Please be a voice. You can find further information at www.ADVIONadvocates.org
