One thing that will never change…….

One huge challenge we face every year is Medicare changes every October. You can always bet that something will change. It could be documentation, billing, how we can interact with the residents, infection control, etc. It does not only effect us in therapy but the whole building.

This was more pronounced all throughout the Pandemic as rules seemed to change weekly as we learned more and more. Changes in when to mask, when to test, when to isolate seemed to be a daily occurrence.

One thing stays the same

With all that change that happens, one thing remains the same……… the residents. No matter how frustrating it can be, at the foundation of it all is being the facilitator of helping someone get better.

From starting in rooms in full PPE to returning to group therapy sessions, one thing did not change. This population needs us. Without the caring and Interventions that we provide, how will a loved one fully recover and go back home. Who will encourage them to get out of bed when they don’t want to or feel good to get stronger and walk again. Who will be the ones who take the time and have the skills to use our hands to improve range of motion and decrease pain and fixed joints.

Sometimes it can be frustrating to be in this line of work, but usually all it takes it a quick hug or a thank you and it all melts away. It is amazing how one moment in a day can completely brighten your mood. I am forever grateful for the simple acts of thank you. Even if it is just a smile.
