Happy New Year

Goodbye 2024 and hello 2025. It is hard to believe that another year has passed. So much seemes to have happened this past year and yet it seems like it went in the blink of an eye.

Frequently we hear from our older generation as we work with them how it seems the days are long, but the years are short. It just seems like such a weird statement, but seems to make more and more sense every year.

So what has happened this year

Well the therapy world has once again had it’s share of fighting for our livelihood as well as the benefits of our geriatric population.

There have been many opportunities to advocate for changes that better the lives of our elderly. There have been battles to keep therapy a viable option to better the quality of life of our geriatric generation.

There have been some wins and some loses but yet still seem to be fighting the same battles over and over again.

Insurance in the spotlight

Frequently this past year there were many instances of insurance companies in the spotlight. Mostly it was not for good news. There were some lawsuits that were won, some lawsuits continuing, and what seemed like a constant battle.

Insurance was quickly thrust into the spotlight at the end of the year. This time it involved more than just the Geriatric population and Medicare Advantage plans. Insurance plans for the general population were quickly thrust into the news when the CEO of United Healthcare was murdered.

New year, new start?

Is a new year really a chance for a new start? That seems like a complicated question to me. Do we really get a new start? Is that truely the way things work? Maybe it is actually a chance to reflect.

Reflecting on the past year and making an honest assessment of the year is a much better way of looking at it. Take note and celebrate what things you have achieved and moments of success you should be proud of. Take an inventory of where you fell short. Where did you fail. Is there a way to learn from that failure and make it a goal to overcome it this year?

Starting over new and fresh seems to me like oversimplification and neglecting your personal accomplishments. How do you grow as a person, a leader, and influencer, if you don’t build upon the success you have achieved.

Growth comes in different forms. Growth is building on your successes while simultaneously trying to overcome your weaknesseses and failures.

Time to stop focusing on a yearly change

Go and change your thought process and make small attainable goals throughout the year. Let them build upon each other so that you can build momentum and enact the possibility of radical change in your life. Celebrate the successes.

Share the experience

We can also not live in a bubble. We need to be open and in tandem with those around us. We need others aware of your goals and to be attentive and caring of the goals that others have around you. We need each other to grow and prosper. Iron sharpens iron.

So start now

Do not wait. Start now to list your accomplishments and celebrate them. List your failures and set goals that will overcome them. Strengthen your relationships with those around you to help them as well as help yourself to achieve the highest success of your life. Do not stand still. Be proactive and chase your dreams. What better time then now, what better time than here. Happy New Year.
