Halloween can be a very lively, creative, and fun time in the world of skilled nursing. There are usually many activities the week of as well as the day of Halloween.
Fall festival build up
Often there are some activities leading up to Halloween. These can be decorating parties getting the facility all decked out and ready to go. Therapy can get involved with having Occupaional Therapy helping residents to paint pumpkins for activity tolerance and arm range of motion.
Halloween party
There is usually not much of an excuse needed to have a party. Well that makes it easy to have a Halloween party with the residents with snacks, goodies, and games. Sometimes there are even activities like a pumpkin decorating contest including staff and residents.
Costumes are always all the rage
Costumes of all kinds can really up the fun level for the whole nursing home on Halloween day. Between kids coming in to see grandparents or the staff dressing up to bring some joy, the whole energy level of the building changes.
This has and can lead up to having a costume contest during the resident Halloween party. All it takes is a little creativity and you can really help to change a resident’s day.
