But I am done with school

As we grow up we are guided into a path of education that leads to a career. It is usually rather simple and consistent. We go from elementary school, middle school, then on to high school. In high school we have many influences guiding us to a career path.

Often these paths mean college for a degree or trade school for a certificate. Regardless of the path, we move onto our career.

Graduation is the end of education

As we are growing up and working our way through, we have limited insight of what it truely takes to be successful. We think that at soon as we graduate, we will be done with schooling.

The first step……continuing education

There is a percentage of licensed professions that require continuing education to renew a license to perform your career. This is especially true when it comes to Healthcare.

No matter what part of heathcare you are in, nursing or therapy or even physicians, need to periodically participate in continuing education in order to maintain our license.

The amount and timing differs based on the licensing Board’s rules for that occupation. It also varies by the state you are practicing in.

An example would be North Carolina Physical Therapy requires an completion of 30 hours every two years for a Physical Therapist and 20 hours every two years for a Physical Therapy Assistant. Registered Nurses require 30 hours every two years, while Physicians need to complete 60 hours every three years.

Career advancement

After some time of working in your field, there comes a time when the itch to advance your career starts to creep up. Often the best way to advance a career is through some kind of education. Depending on the career or desire, this could be something as simple as a specialty certification or as involved as a return to school for a higher level of degree.

One of the best examples of the later is the ability to progress in nursing. Through continued school and testing a person can progress from a certified nursing assistant to a licensed practical nurse to a registered nurse and beyond. All that it takes is the desire and drive to work towards the next level of degree.

Personal Growth

Sometimes there comes a time when there is an itch to foster personal growth. This can be an exciting and possibly scary moment in time. There is almost an unlimited span of subjects and ideas that can be incorporated.

Some people have a desire to improve their leadership qualities and begin to study more books about leadership or attend seminars about leadership.

Some people have the desire to better understand the rational of what they do through professional certificates in different aspects of customer service, buisness, or sales.

So what is your itch

So where is your heart taking you? Are you feeling the itch? Is there a itch in multiple parts of your life? Don’t be afraid to try something new. You will never achieve anything if you don’t try. So join me in trying to make a change and learn something new. My goal is continued leadership development as well as achieving a buisness related certificate to help improve my management skills. Just remember that the sky is the limit. The only limit is your imagination.
