Happy National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer week was established by President Richard Nixon in 1974 by presidential proclamation. It is organized by the Points of Light Foundation, which was founded by President George H. W. Bush.

Why would someone volunteer?

There are countless opportunities in our world to put your time and skills to good use to better our world. No matter where you look there are organizations and non-profits that are desperate for volunteers.

These wonderful organizations are just trying to make our world better. Many of them start and make a difference in our own backyard.

Where are there volunteers?

Volunteers can be found everywhere. They can be found at churches, food pantries, clothing drives, and homeless shelters.

Often people don’t realize there are many other areas that are very reliant on volunteerism. Volunteers can be found just about anywhere you look.

Nursing homes and hospitals have volunteers helping with activities for residents, support roles like clergical and companionship.

Volunteers are needed for fundraising opportunities like fun runs and 5ks to raise money for good causes.

Volunteers are especially important in many suburban and rural areas for firefighters and emergency medical care.

So thank a volunteer this week….or become one

There are many aspects of our lives that have an impact made by someone who volunteered their time and skills to make our world better. Make sure you thank them for their service and caring. Above all else make it a priority to find something that you can do. All it takes is one step. Happy National Volunteer week.
