One year of lessons

52 weeks

It is hard to believe but it has been a full year since I started this journey. This is the 52nd weekly post of life lessons from a nursing home It is amazing how life is full of moments to share, memories to share, and pleads for understanding and help.

Moments to share

Over the year we have looked at different moments of time in the past year. I have talked about holidays, regulation changes, high points of the year and low points of the year.

There have been posts of life living with the beginning of COVID. There have been posts about the continually changing precautions and interactions while living in the new world of COVID. There have been stories about the lack of PPE and the transition to adequate supply.

There have been posts about the feelings of fear and unknowns at the beginning of the pandemic and the transition back to the new normal.

Memories to share

There have been posts about remembering those that have touched my life. They have been residents with dementia and the interactions both good and bad. There have been posts about family interactions and how it can be difficult at times

There have been stories of happiness, sadness, joy, and pain. There have been moments of great achievement and moments of great frustration.

Pleads for help

There have been posts about pleads for help and understanding. Hopefully there have been some posts that educate people about the frustrations of working in this setting and how we can all make a difference and impact by advocating for our senior citizens.

Thank you

I want to say thank you to all that have read my posts over this year. I very much appreciate to have interactions from those that have read through my gripes and thoughts. Hopefully I have touched your life in some way. Maybe you are a better therapist, or a better family member, or colleague. Maybe you are a better patient or advocate.

This blog has certainly changed my life over this past year. It has made me think more, be open to more ideas, It has made me more compassionate, more empowering, more appreciative of the small moments in life.

Once again thank you for reading and hopefully we can continue this journey through the next year. I have no idea where this will take me and what lives may be changed by even the slightest bit. Here is to another year of life lessons from a nursing home.
